Lasting powers of attorney
Why Register a Power of Attorney?

Age, Illness, Accident

Power ofWhat is a Power of Attorney? Simply put, the power you give (you are a 'donor') is an authority you give someone (the 'attorney'), like a friend, family member or legal adviser, to take decisions for you or instead of you, in your absence, or if you are mentally unfit to take decisions yourself.

Since the law changed in 2007, there are two types of power you can give to someone - the legal power to take decisions about your health and welfare, and then there is giving someone the legal powerr to take decisions about your money and property affairs.

A Power of Attorney must be formally registered before it can take effect.

We advise families what to do if it is not possible for a relative to give a member of the family or a friend the power of an 'attorney' due to their mental state. Free initial email consultation.

Just click the envelope to open your email client. The Subject of the email you send us will be set to 'Requesting email consultation re. Power of Attorney.' Please outline what information you require in the body of the email. Thank you.

travelling
You can give a Family Law Clinic consultant your power of attorney to manage your affairs if you are living or travelling abroad.

Should you be working or travelling abroad, you need to appoint a trusted family member, business associate or friend to manage either/both your property or business affairs whilst you are away, or to make decisions concerning your health and welfare if you suffer from ill health whilst out of the country.
We explain all about the law, show you how to complete the appropriate forms, act as independant Certificate Providers, accept Powers of Attorney, visit elderly or infirm relatives, and explain what happens if it is not possible for someone to give a power of attorney to someone else due to their mental capacity.
We need to meet with you to discuss your wishes and needs, and will discuss the types of Power of Attorney and the ins and outs of arranging to make a Lasting Power of Attorney.
